SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
FLUOROSIS

Magnitude of Problem

Fluorosis in India
At present 80% of population is in the rural areas, of which 90% use ground water i.e. 72% or 720 million. It is estimated that about 25 million of this population is at risk from fluoride affected diseases and the figure is rising.

  • Fluorosis is an endemic disease prevalent in 17 states in India.
  • 70-100% districts are affected in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
  • 40-70% districts are affected in Bihar, National Capital Territory of Delhi Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu Uttar Pradesh
  • 10-40% districts are affected in Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerela, Orissa and West Bengal. While the endemicity for the rest of the states is not known.
